Union Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal participated in a meeting of agri-enterpreneurs and academicians yesterday at Guwahati to explore the possibilities of agri- driven growth for entire north-eastern region. The experts informed Sri Sonowal about the ongoing types of farming and the outputs alongwith ecological issues. Organic farming, inorganic farming, natural farming were discussed in the important meeting and stressed about the growth arising out of agriculture must balance the ecology and economic needs of the people of the north-east. The experts team was led by the Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University Dr Bidyut Deka. After discussion with the experts, Sri Sonowal requested the team of experts to prepare a comprehensive report on the feasibility of organic and natural farming so that it could be a road map for northeast and approach for any future policy-related issues at the GOI top level.
Sri Sonowal said, ‘the use of modern technology and expert techniques must be embraced smartly to reap the benefits of farming in our region and we must respect the ecological balance of our region at the same time in our journey to attain economic prosperity for the farming community….we believe that there is huge opportunity for the farming community from the region to avail benefit and become an important stakeholder in expanding the AYUSH- based industry in the northeast.’ ( 27-12-2021)
