On 25 January, 20 Members of the European Parliament signed a petition organised jointly by Euro-Med Monitor and RSF that calls on the Israeli authorities to guarantee the freedom of movement of the dozens of Palestinian journalists whom they are currently preventing from leaving the West Bank or Gaza Strip.

These journalists include Majdoleen Hassona, who works for the Turkish TV channel TRT and who was awarded the RSF Press Freedom Prize for Independence in 2021. The Israeli intelligence services have banned her from leaving the West Bank “for security reasons” since August 2019. She was even prevented from travelling to collect her RSF prize. To put pressure on the Israeli authorities, the #LetMajdoleenOut campaign was launched last month on social media.

With the backing of the MEPs, this petition by Euro-Med Monitor and RSF also calls on Israel to end every other form of harassment, intimidation or blackmail against these Palestinian journalists.
