CAPT JINTU GOGOI MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN DULIAJAN

ARMY AND OIL INDIA LIMITED IN SUPPORT OF STATE GOVT OF ASSAM CONDUCTS THE  INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF 18TH EDITION OF CAPT JINTU GOGOI, VIR CHAKRA, MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT IN DULIAJAN.

Red Shield Division under the aegis of Spear Corps alongwith Oil India Limited, Duliajan and in support of State Govt of Assam conducted the Inaugural Ceremony for the 18th Edition of Capt Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament at Nehru Maidan, Duliajan in Dibrugarh District on Wednesday.

Sarbananda Sonowal, Cabinet Minister,  Ports, Shipping, Waterways & AYUSH and Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command jointly declared the tournament open in the presence of proud parents of the braveheart Hony Flying Officer Thagiram Gogoi and Dulu Prabha Gogoi.

The event was also graced by Lt Gen R C Tiwari, GOC Spear Corps, Rameshwar Teli, Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Employment and The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Prasanta Borkakoty, RCE, Oil India Ltd and Gokul Chandra Swargiary, MD, AGCL among others.

      The mesmerising event was attended by over Twenty Thousand audience comprising of Sponsors, Media Houses, Influencers, Bloggers of Assam and local populace of Upper Assam.

The event was full of exciting and dynamic performances that included perofrmaces of Local Band, Military Jazz and Pipe Band, Combat Free Fall, Small Team Insertion, Kallaripayutu, Mallkhambha, Bhangra, Unarmed Combat and performance by local kids of Assam Public School, Duliajan. The event also witnessed the Trophies displayed along side the Twenty Four Team Captains with Tournament and FIFA songs being played.

     Speaking during the occasion, the Army Commander shared his personal connect with the brave-heart when he was the instructor of Capt Jintu Gogoi, Veer Chakra at Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai. Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated and Thanked Indian Army and Oil India Limited for organizing the event at such a grand scale.

He also emphasized that such events will give the youth of Upper Assam opportunities for achieving bigger goals in sports. Sarbananda Sonowal gave Lachit Borphukan Samman Chinhna to the parents of Swahid Jintu Gogoi, Thagiram Gogoi and Dulu Prabha Gogoi.

Jintu Gogoi withdrawn his leaves and joined the Indian Forces at the time of Kargil war to fought for the country. His sacrifice will be remembered forever. – Lt. General Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-in-C, said delivering his speech on the opening ceremony.

Giving his inaugural speech on the occasion, Chief guest of honor, Sarbananda Sonowal, Cabinet Minister, Ports, Shipping, Waterways and AYUSH said, We all need to cooperate and coordinate to promote Captain Jintu Gogoi, VIR CHAKRA, Memorial Football Tournament to a National level Football tournament.

We are grateful to OIL for doing their best to support the tournament this year. I request OIL RCE to take necessary steps in this regard. He added.

      The Tournament will be played from 15 to 22 February at four venues simultaneously at Duliajan, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Digboi with 24 teams from 8 states of North East. Closing Ceremony is scheduled on 22nd February at the Nehru Maidan Vanue, Duliajan.

The inaugural match of the tournament played between Kakopathar FC and Brotherhood FC, Sikkim.

In the inaugural Match Brotherhood FC of Sikkim defeated Kakopathar FC 4-0.
