Development & Climate Days 2024: A Forum for Climate Action

D&C Days Conference 2024: Turning Climate Ambition into Action – Confronting Uncomfortable Truths
D&C Days will be a one-day, in-person event & will take place on Sunday, 17 November 2024, at the Radisson Baku in Azerbaijan. Development & Climate Days are set to be an essential venue for promoting the global climate agenda in 2024.
Bridging the gap between climate ambition and actionable goals is the primary objective of this yearly event, particularly when confronted with hard realities that are sometimes overlooked in the broader policy discourse.

Deeper participation, innovative solutions, and open dialogue on the significant climate issues that both industrialised and developing countries face are the main objectives of the event.
The 2024 event will be organised in partnership with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre (RCCC), the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the Climate Justice Resilience Fund (CJRF), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank.
The theme of the conference for 2024 is “Turning Climate Ambition Into Action: Confronting Uncomfortable Truths”, encouraging attendees to confront challenging realities such as unequal responsibilities, financial inequalities, and a regular slow pace of political determination. With COP29 coming up, D & C Days provides a crucial forum for marginalised voices, climate campaigners, and politicians to develop strategies that move beyond assurances of meaningful action.
What is the main agenda for the D & C Days Conference?
D&C Days 2024 is centred on transforming aspirational climate commitments into beneficial and successful projects. The event serves as a reminder that determination on its own won’t be enough unless it’s combined with a readiness to face unpleasant truths, such as:
Many nations have adopted climate goals, but significant policy gaps prevent them from being implemented. These issues must be addressed to meet the 1.5°C target set by the Paris Agreement.
Even while developing nations contribute less to global emissions, they experience an excessive share of the effects of climate change. The purpose of this conference is to directly address these inequalities and promote equitable solutions.

Key Issues to Explore for Development and Climate Days 2024
Participants at D&C Days 2024 will explore a range of pressing climate topics, including:
Climate equity and justice. The dialogue will concentrate on how excluded and vulnerable communities can more effectively participate in and profit from global climate action. It seems probable that the focus would shift to discussions around damage and loss compensation for nations affected by climate change.
Challenges of financing climate initiatives. It’s always difficult to get enough money for significant climate projects. The occasion will draw attention to the gaps in funding sources and examine innovative approaches for climate finance, like debt-for-climate agreements and private sector involvement.
Cross-sector collaboration: It takes collaboration across industries to achieve significant climate action. The gathering aims to create linkages and practical solutions that go beyond hyperbole by bringing together governments, civil society, and the commercial sector.

The Valuable Partners for Development and Climate Days 2024
Contributing partners to this year’s event are ACT Alliance, the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), ‘Generating Ambition for Locally Led Adaptation’ core partners, with funding from the government of the Netherlands and the Least Developed Countries Initiative for Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR).
Thus, the central theme of D&C Days 2024 is that commitment is not enough to address the climate crisis on its own. Confronting difficult realities and putting policies in place that deal with the systemic injustices in the global climate framework is necessary for taking meaningful action. To set the tone for a future in which climate justice is at the forefront of global action, the event will involve cross-sector collaboration, financial innovation, and significant policy commitments.
Global cooperation will be essential to ensuring that climate ambition is transformed into sustainable action, especially through initiatives proposed at D&C Days. The path leading to COP29 is packed with obstacles, but with the appropriate partnerships and a persistent commitment to justice, there is the possibility of a more sustainable and equitable future.
