How To Improve Your Creativity Dramatically
AGRITA CHHIBBER
Like a muscle, creativity is a skill.
It has to be pushed occasionally outside of its comfort zone, stretched, and challenged.
The Latin word creare, which means “to create, make,” is the root of the English word creativity.
The Latin roots of its derivative suffixes are also present. In Chaucer’s The Parson’s Tale, the word “create” first arose in English in the 14th century to denote divine creation. But it wasn’t until the Age of Enlightenment that its modern interpretation as an act of human creation began to take shape.
Psychology, business studies, and cognitive science are the main academic fields with an interest in creativity. But it also exists in the fields of education, philosophy, the arts, and theology, as well as in the social sciences (sociology, linguistics, and economics), engineering, technology, and mathematics.
The relationships between creativity and general intelligence, personality type, mental and neural processes, mental health, artificial intelligence, the potential for fostering creativity through education, training, leadership, and organisational practises, the factors that determine how creativity is evaluated and perceived, the fostering of creativity for national economic benefit, and the application of creative resources to improve the effectiveness of government programmes are all covered by these disciplines.
It’s time to exercise your creative muscles once more.
1. Develop Collaboration Skills
Creativity comes from curiosity.
One person who does not think that innovation is the result of sporadic bursts of genius is Andrew Ng, a former Google employee who is now with Baidu. Instead, he claimed that you may develop your creativity and innovation in a structured way.
“In my own life, I discovered that I would go and learn a lot, read a lot, and speak to specialists whenever I wasn’t sure what to do next. I have no idea how the human brain functions, but it’s almost miraculous how new ideas begin to emerge when you read enough or consult with enough experts, when you have enough inputs.”
2. Engage in a Loved Activity
Have no ideas? Uncertain of what to do? To prevent your creativity from suffering, you need to have some balance in your life.
Do something that makes you happy, Albert Einstein advised in a letter to his son in response to his son’s interest in playing the piano. This advice is relevant for everyone who wants to lose themselves in the creative process.
Einstein stated, “When you are doing something with such delight that you don’t realise the passing of time, that is the method to learn the most. I occasionally get so caught up in my job that I forget to have lunch.
Love and creativity go hand in hand. You can benefit from having a passion like playing an instrument, exercising, or collecting memorabilia.
Indeed, working with others and gaining knowledge from them may be just what you need to spark your creativity.
3. Look for Ideas in Other Sectors
You won’t get your next idea by imitating what a rival has already done. So keep an eye out for innovation across a range of markets.
Find out which industries are thriving. Why
Which companies have your strongest loyalty? Why?
How can you use what has been successful for companies outside your sector to your own market? Perhaps you can make these suggestions better.
A fantastic method to increase your personal creativity is to draw inspiration from many businesses.
4. Unplug (Or Just Do Nothing)
Alan Cohen once penned: “Both working and relaxing have their virtues. Use both, but ignore neither.” Sometimes when you’re not straining your mind for the next brilliant idea, your best ideas will come to you.
It might happen when you’re asleep. A restful night’s sleep will increase your productivity and creativity.
You may come up with a brilliant idea while taking a shower and letting your thoughts roam.
Maybe while you’re driving, working out, hiking, shopping, flying, or watching the sunset, you’ll have your next brilliant idea. Unplug if your imagination is lacking. Relax.
5. Walk
The typical person spends 7 to 15 hours per day sitting down.
Crazy, yes? That can be dreadful for your creative thinking because it’s bad for your health and emotions.
According to a Stanford study, walking enhances creative thinking. In a subsequent study, HBR discovered that participants in walking meetings are more imaginative and engaged.
Numerous business executives and entrepreneurs often hold walking meetings, including Priceline Group CEO Darren Huston, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Western Union Co. CEO Hikmet Ersek, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner, and many more.
Even while walking at work won’t end the country’s sitting epidemic, it’s a start in the right direction.
Follow this 10-minute Routine to Increase Your Creativity
- Before you put your head to rest
Many of the most successful people in the world often use their sleep to deliberately influence their subconscious mind’s operations.
How?
Before you go to sleep, spend some time in meditation and writing down the goals you have for the day. Consider a tonne of inquiries on that matter. Make some “requests,” to use Edison’s phrase. jot down your thoughts and queries on paper. Your replies will be more understandable the more explicit the questions are. Your subconscious mind will begin working on those issues while you are asleep.
- After you Wake up
Start jotting down any thoughts you have about those topics first thing in the morning when your creative mind is most alert, fresh from its nighttime exertion.
While doing these brain dumps, I frequently get ideas for articles I’m going to write. I get suggestions on how I might improve as a husband and a father to my three foster kids. I gain clarity around the objectives I think I ought to be pursuing. I gain knowledge about persons I should get in touch with or ways to enhance my existing relationships.
