Inner Child Healing: Make Amends With The Younger You!
PARISMITA GOSWAMI

Have you ever reacted disproportionately to a minor inconvenience, like how a simple spilled coffee can turn into an emotional breakdown?
Or a chronic feeling of self-doubt about yourself, no matter what you have accomplished?
These reactions may be indicators that your inner child is trying to get your attention.
Well, some part of healing those old wounds is recognizing and listening to the inner child to live a content life.
So, let’s pull the curtain back on inner child healing, discussing what it is, how it shows up, and how you can begin to revitalize and reconnect with that part of yourself.

What is Inner Child Healing?
Inner child healing is a therapeutic practice of identifying, understanding, and healing emotional wounds and traumas from early childhood.
Psychologist define the inner child as a child-like part of our personality and emotional development. It is a metaphor for the child-like aspects of ourselves that can emerge when we are experiencing stress or a triggering experience.
How we were nurtured or not nurtured as children can define how we treat ourselves as adults.
For example, if your home life as a child were not encouraged to express oneself emotionally, it would likely produce feelings of shame and embarrassment for exhibiting strong feelings as an adult. Inner child work involves reconnecting the parts of us that needed care when we were younger.
However, by offering compassion and understanding and reparenting the wounded pieces of us, we can heal those old wounds and move out of situations in which we do not feel led by past experiences.
How to Heal Your Inner Child
Here are some also strategies to help you on this journey:
1. Practice mindfulness: Breathwork, or mindfulness practices such as deep breathing can help you tap into your inner child. It calms your nervous system and encourages feelings of presence and grounding. In turn, like a child, you begin to find yourself and listen to your body and emotions more instinctively.
2. Cultivate your creativity: Engage in activities that bring you joy and allow you to express your creativity, such as drawing, cooking, or gardening. Activities that enable you to be joyful and connect with your inner child’s wonder.
3. Pursue collective hobbies: Collecting, creating, expressing or “finding” new hobbies can help you let go of traumas. So, indulge yourself to reconnect with life’s simple joy and engage in child-like playfulness.
4. Journaling: You can explore journaling, writing letters to your younger self, or writing from the perspective of your inner child. Journalling can help you process difficult emotions and provide a safe space to express your experience and heal.
5. Build a Supportive Environment: Surround yourself with people who support and validate your feelings. An environment like this helps you feel more secure and understood, much like having nurturing caregivers in childhood.
You can heal and develop a more compassionate self and an empowered level of self. Try visualization to revisit and reframe traumatic memories and practice self-compassion, as well as holding healthy boundaries.
Conclusion
Everything seemed possible when I looked through the eyes of a child. And every once in a while, I remember, I still have the chance to be that wild.―Nikki Rowe
As we continue in life, remember that healing is not about erasing the past but about transforming it into a source of strength and wisdom. So, take a moment to listen to the whispers of your inner child.
You might just find that the key to unlocking your true potential has been within you all along.
