Mahabahu Mirror : Four Issues, One Continuing Conversation
PAHARI BARUAH
In just four issues, Mahabahu Mirror has begun a journey from the landscapes of Assam to the larger questions shaping our planet.
The journey began in July 2026 with the Brahmaputra. The river was not merely a geographical subject; it became a window into biodiversity, ecology, culture and the enduring relationship between people and nature.

The August issue moved from the river to the atmosphere and the future of a warming planet. It examined climate cooling, Solar Radiation Modification, governance, science and the difficult choices confronting humanity. The issue asked an uncomfortable but necessary question: as the planet warms, how should we think about technologies that could potentially cool it?
In September, the focus shifted to Indigenous knowledge, culture, healing traditions and the living heritage of communities. From Mayong’s ancient healing practices to traditional knowledge systems and cultural histories, the issue explored a fundamental idea: some of the knowledge needed for the future may already exist in communities that have carried it across generations.
And now, in October, Mahabahu Mirror turns to one of the most urgent realities of modern life: pollution.

The Air We Breathe, The Heart We Risk examines pollution not simply as an environmental problem but as a question of health, development, economics, governance and human responsibility. From the changing paradigms of environmental regulation to the interconnected relationship between air pollution and climate change, the issue asks what happens when the systems that sustain modern life begin to threaten the very conditions on which life depends.
Four issues. Four themes.
Yet one continuous editorial journey:
River → Climate → People → Planetary Health.
