Manas Mitra Programme Inspires Over 1,500 Students Through Nature Orientation and Jungle Safari Initiative

Barpeta Road, Assam | May 26, 2026: Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve (MNPTR) has continued its community outreach initiative under the Manas Mitra Programme (Friends of Manas) by conducting “Nature Orientation” sessions and the “Jungle Journey for Juniors (J3)” safari programme for school students from fringe villages surrounding the reserve.

The Manas Mitra Programme was launched on November 14, 2024, at Bansbari Range on the occasion of Children’s Day with the objective of strengthening the relationship between local communities and wildlife conservation.

Since its launch, the programme has focused on involving communities, especially students and youth, in conservation awareness activities and promoting understanding of the ecological importance of the Manas landscape.

As part of the initiative, Nature Orientation programmes were conducted from February 2026 across fringe villages covering 22 schools and reaching 1,537 students.

 Immersive learning sessions brought the wonders of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve to life by focusing on its incredible biodiversity and critical ecological value. The core mission was to ignite a passion for wildlife conservation and inspire the next generation to protect these irreplaceable natural habitats. The excitement was palpable as students walked away with creative animal masks and custom-engraved pencils to remind them of their role as young conservationists.

A major component of the initiative was the selection of students for complimentary educational safaris under “Jungle Journey for Juniors (J3).”

The true highlight of the initiative was the launch of “Jungle Journey for Juniors (J3),” an exciting program offering students complimentary educational safaris. This hands-on field experience took learning outside the classroom, giving children the unforgettable chance to witness the park’s thriving ecosystems up close.

So far, the J3 initiative has brought the magic of the wild to life for 150 students and 25 teachers through thrilling guided safaris inside the reserve. 

The Manas Mitra Programme aims to encourage participation of local communities and stakeholders in conservation activities and promote awareness among younger generations living around the reserve.

The programme also includes engagement with Eco-Development Committees, training and interaction with nature guides and jeep safari operators, and outreach with tourism stakeholders to support conservation-linked community participation.

The programme seeks to promote a long-term understanding of conservation and strengthen the relationship between people and the natural heritage of Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Tiger Reserve.
