Mohan Bhagwat’s Recent Address On Superman & God!
MOHAN KHOUND

In a recent address to volunteers, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), emphasized the boundless nature of progress and the human aspiration to transcend ordinary limitations.
His speech, which resonated deeply with the audience, touched upon the innate human desire to achieve greatness, often symbolized by the metaphor of becoming Superman or even a god.

While Bhagwat’s speech highlighted lofty ideals, it inadvertently cast a shadow over the stark realities of the current administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am trying to enter into Bhagwat’s insights, the failures of the Modi government in tackling unemployment and price rise, and the subsequent electoral repercussions.
“Congress takes a dig at PM Modi citing Bhagwat’s ‘man wants to become god’ video. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to X and wrote, “I am sure the self-anointed non-biological PM has got news of this latest Agni Missile, fired by Nagpur from Jharkhand and aimed at Lok Kalyan Marg.””
The Concept of Endless Progress: Bhagwat’s assertion that there is no end to progress is rooted in a long-standing philosophical tradition. The idea that human potential is limitless has driven societal advancements across history. However, this notion stands in stark contrast to the economic stagnation and social strife seen under Modi’s tenure.
The Stark Reality: Unemployment and Price Rise: Despite the grand promises made by the Modi government, the reality for many Indians has been grim. Unemployment rates have soared, hitting a 45-year high in recent years. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reported that the unemployment rate in India reached 7.8% in June 2023, a figure that translates to millions of jobless citizens.
The situation has been exacerbated by a significant decline in the labor force participation rate, indicating that many have given up looking for jobs altogether.
Parallel to this, the rise in prices of essential commodities has strained household budgets. Inflation has been relentless, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicating a sharp increase in the cost of living. The prices of basic necessities like food, fuel, and healthcare have skyrocketed, disproportionately affecting the middle and lower-income groups. This price rise, combined with stagnant wages, has led to widespread economic distress.
Election Setbacks: A Reflection of Discontent: The electoral failures of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in recent state elections serve as a barometer of public dissatisfaction. The BJP’s loss of key states such as Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh to opposition parties underscores the growing discontent among the electorate. Voters have clearly signaled their frustration with the government’s inability to address pressing economic issues.
The 2024 general election was a critical moment for the BJP. Despite a well-funded and aggressive campaign, the party experienced significant setbacks, losing a considerable number of seats compared to the previous term. Analysts attribute this decline to the government’s failure to deliver on its economic promises and the perceived disconnect between the administration and the common citizen.

Bhagwat’s Implicit Critique: In his speech, Bhagwat’s references to ‘maryada’ (dignity) and ‘ahankar’ (arrogance) can be interpreted as veiled critiques of the current administration’s approach. He emphasized that a true leader maintains dignity and humility, traits that many argue have been lacking in Modi’s leadership style. The Modi government’s often confrontational stance with critics and its handling of dissent have raised concerns about democratic principles and governance.
Bhagwat’s metaphor of becoming Superman or a god reflects an ideal that seems far removed from the daily struggles of ordinary Indians. The aspirational message, while inspiring, seems out of touch with the immediate needs of a population grappling with joblessness and rising costs.
Real-World Implications: To contextualize Bhagwat’s points, we must look at several real-world examples where the pursuit of progress has led to remarkable achievements, contrasting sharply with the current Indian scenario under Modi.
Space Exploration: India’s achievements in space exploration, such as the Chandrayaan missions, symbolize the potential for greatness. However, these successes are overshadowed by the domestic economic woes that remain unaddressed.
Medical Advancements: The rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines showcased India’s scientific prowess. Yet, the healthcare system’s struggles during the pandemic highlighted the gaps in infrastructure and preparedness.
Information Technology: India’s IT sector has been a global leader, but the benefits of this growth have not translated into widespread economic prosperity for all citizens.

A Call for Accountability: Mohan Bhagwat’s message about endless progress and the aspiration to greatness serves as a powerful reminder of human potential. However, the Modi government’s tenure has been marked by unmet promises and growing economic challenges. The rising unemployment, persistent price rise, and electoral setbacks indicate a need for introspection and course correction.
As India moves forward, it is crucial for the administration to address these issues with the seriousness they deserve. True progress will only be achieved when the government’s actions align with the lofty ideals espoused by leaders like Bhagwat.
The onus lies on the Modi administration to bridge the gap between rhetoric and reality, ensuring that the nation’s progress is inclusive and sustainable.
