Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD of Oil India, Delivers 4th Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Leadership Lecture.
The Rangghar Auditorium at Dibrugarh University buzzed with intellectual fervor as Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil India Limited (OIL), delivered the 4th Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Leadership Lecture on March 25, 2025.
Organized by the Centre for Management Studies (CMS) at Dibrugarh University, the event drew an impressive turnout of students, faculty, industry leaders, and dignitaries, underscoring its growing stature as a cornerstone of leadership discourse in the region.
In his keynote address, Dr. Rath paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Ranjit Kumar Dutta, a towering figure in India’s oil and gas sector and former CMD of Oil India Limited. Describing Dutta as a “visionary pioneer,” Dr. Rath highlighted his enduring legacy of innovation and leadership that continues to inspire generations.
Speaking to an audience that included some of the brightest young minds from Assam and beyond, Dr. Rath emphasized the qualities that define true leadership: perseverance, a clear vision, and a proactive mindset. “Leadership is not just about authority,” he remarked. “It’s about earning respect, fostering collaboration, and stepping up to take responsibility when the moment demands it.”
Dr. Rath also turned the spotlight on the immense potential of Northeast India, particularly in the context of the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative. He painted an optimistic picture of the region’s economic and industrial growth, urging students and professionals alike to seize the opportunities that lie ahead.
The lecture concluded with a lively interactive session, where Dr. Rath fielded questions from attendees, offering insights drawn from his extensive experience at the helm of one of India’s leading public-sector enterprises.

The event was enriched by the presence of several prominent figures from the energy and academic sectors. S. K. Barua, former Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and current CEO of Northeast Gas Distribution Company Limited, delivered the vote of thanks. In a significant announcement, Barua revealed the creation of an endowment fund in memory of Late Ranjit Kumar Dutta at Dibrugarh University. This fund, he noted, will ensure the sustainability of the lecture series, preserving its role as a platform for leadership inspiration for years to come.
A standout moment of the evening was the presentation of the Bhubaneswar Barman Memorial Award 2024. Hena Parbin, a stellar performer from the MBA (Full-Time) 2022 batch at CMS, received the accolade from Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, and Dr. Ranjit Rath. The award, which celebrates academic excellence among female students in the MBA program, underscored the university’s commitment to fostering talent and gender equity.
The lecture was graced by an array of distinguished guests, including Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Managing Director of NRL; Pranjal Changmai, Managing Director of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL); and Rupjyoti Phukan, Resident Chief Executive of OIL. Senior officials from Oil India Limited, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, and Dibrugarh University also attended, adding gravitas to the occasion.
Since its inception, the Ranjit Kumar Dutta Memorial Leadership Lecture has emerged as a vital forum for thought-provoking discussions on leadership and management. By bridging academia and industry, it continues to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders in Assam and beyond. The 4th edition of the lecture reaffirmed its legacy, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and possibility.
As the event concluded, the auditorium echoed with applause, a testament to the enduring impact of Dr. Rath’s words and the timeless relevance of Ranjit Kumar Dutta’s contributions to India’s industrial landscape.

Oil India Limited Partners with Guwahati Medical College & Hospital to Revolutionize Urological Care.

In a landmark move to bolster healthcare infrastructure and elevate medical services in Northeast India, Oil India Limited (OIL), a leading public sector enterprise, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on March 26, 2025.
The agreement, executed under OIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, aims to equip GMCH with cutting-edge urological surgery technology, marking a transformative step in the region’s healthcare landscape. The signing ceremony saw Madhurjya Barua, Executive Director (HR&FA) of OIL, and Prof. (Dr.) Achyut Chandra Baishya, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of GMCH, formalize the partnership in the presence of senior officials from both institutions.
At the heart of this initiative is the provision of a state-of-the-art Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) system, a revolutionary advancement in urological surgery. This sophisticated equipment promises to redefine treatment standards for a range of urological conditions, including urinary stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and bladder tumors.
Unlike the conventional Holmium: YAG lasers widely used in medical facilities, the TFL system offers superior precision in stone fragmentation, dusting, and tissue ablation. Its advanced capabilities enable minimally invasive procedures, shorter operating times, and faster patient recovery—benefits that are poised to significantly enhance the quality of care at GMCH, one of Assam’s premier healthcare institutions.
The introduction of TFL technology is expected to address a critical gap in Assam’s healthcare ecosystem, where access to advanced medical equipment has often lagged behind the growing demand for specialized treatments. Urological disorders, such as kidney stones and prostate-related conditions, are increasingly prevalent in the region, driven by factors like dietary habits, water quality, and an aging population.

By equipping GMCH with this next-generation tool, OIL is not only improving treatment outcomes but also making high-quality care more accessible to underserved communities, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced procedures.
This collaboration aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s broader developmental goals, particularly those championed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG), which emphasizes ‘Health and Nutrition’ as a priority area.
OIL’s initiative reflects a strategic blend of corporate responsibility and public welfare, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to India’s socio-economic progress. Beyond the immediate impact on urological care, the partnership sets a precedent for public-private collaborations aimed at bridging healthcare disparities in rural and semi-urban regions.
Speaking at the event, Madhurjya Barua highlighted OIL’s longstanding commitment to community development. “This MoU is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the well-being of the people of Assam. By introducing world-class medical technology to GMCH, we aim to empower healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes, contributing to a healthier and more resilient society,” he said.
Prof. (Dr.) Achyut Chandra Baishya echoed this sentiment, noting that the TFL system would elevate GMCH’s capabilities and position it as a regional hub for urological excellence. “This equipment will allow us to serve our patients with greater efficiency and precision, ultimately saving lives and reducing suffering,” he added.
The impact of this initiative extends beyond the walls of GMCH. As a teaching hospital, GMCH plays a pivotal role in training the next generation of medical professionals. The availability of TFL technology will provide doctors, surgeons, and students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge procedures, fostering innovation and expertise in Assam’s medical community.
Furthermore, the reduced recovery times associated with TFL-assisted surgeries could alleviate the burden on hospital resources, allowing GMCH to treat more patients effectively.
This MoU is the latest in a series of CSR efforts by OIL, which has consistently invested in healthcare, education, and infrastructure development across Northeast India. From funding rural clinics to supporting educational institutions, the company has built a legacy of impactful interventions that resonate with local needs.
The partnership with GMCH underscores OIL’s mission to go beyond its core business of energy exploration and production, channeling resources into initiatives that uplift communities and drive sustainable growth.
As Assam continues to navigate the challenges of modernizing its healthcare system, collaborations like this one offer a blueprint for progress. The integration of TFL technology at GMCH is expected to roll out in the coming months, following necessary installations and staff training. For the people of Assam, this development signals a future where advanced medical care is not a distant privilege but a local reality—a future that OIL and GMCH are building together, one patient at a time.

OIL Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Dialysis Centre at Tinsukia Medical College, Boosting Healthcare Access in Assam
In a significant stride toward equitable healthcare, Oil India Limited (OIL) inaugurated a 4-bedded advanced Dialysis Centre at the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) today.

The facility, established under OIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to provide free dialysis services to economically vulnerable patients, aligning with the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program (PMNDP).
Bridging the Healthcare Gap: Funded by a ₹2.5 crore grant from OIL to Assam’s National Health Mission (NHM), the project facilitated the procurement of 25 haemodialysis machines for installation across multiple dialysis centres in the state. The TMCH unit marks a critical milestone in addressing the rising burden of kidney disease in the region, particularly for marginalized communities who often lack access to affordable treatment.
Dignitaries Hail Collaborative Effort: The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri Sanjoy Kishan, MLA (Tinsukia), who commended OIL’s commitment to public health: “This centre will be a lifeline for countless patients, reflecting the power of public-private partnerships in transforming healthcare infrastructure.”

Key attendees included:
Shri Rathin Kalita, GM (Public Affairs), OIL
Dr. Rupak Kumar Gogoi, Principal, TMCH
Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Joint Director, Health & Family Welfare, Assam
Smt. Nayana Madhu Dutta, Chief Manager (CSR), OIL
Senior officials from OIL, TMCH, and the Tinsukia District Administration.
A Step Toward Sustainable Care: The centre underscores OIL’s CSR focus on accessible and sustainable healthcare. Under the PMNDP, it will offer free, high-quality dialysis to patients below the poverty line, reducing out-of-pocket expenses and travel burdens for rural populations. TMCH authorities emphasized plans to expand services in phases, contingent on community needs.
Looking Ahead: With Assam’s dialysis demand outpacing supply, OIL’s intervention sets a replicable model for corporate-led healthcare innovation. The company reaffirmed its dedication to Assam’s socio-economic development through similar initiatives in education, sanitation, and livelihood generation.
