RUSSIAN WAR CRIMES AND HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATIONS IN THE WAR AGAINST UKRAINE, September 05, 2022.
The use of weapons of mass destruction against civilians is a crime against humanity and a violation of the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
By killing civilians, the aggressor’s forces continue to commit crimes against humanity as defined by the Statute of the International Military Tribunal and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, cynically disregarding all the requirements of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. According to these norms, deliberate attacks on civilians who are not directly involved in hostilities are equated to war crimes.
The taking of civilian hostages is a direct violation of Articles 3 and 34 of the Geneva Convention with regard to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
As of September 05, 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 382 children have died and more than 740 children have been injured. Due to the active hostilities in affected regions, there is no possibility to inspect the areas of shelling and destruction.
Kyiv and Region
In Bucha, Kyiv region, the remains of at least two more people killed by the Russian military were discovered. This was announced by the Chief of the Na- tional Police in the Kyiv region Andrii Nebytov.
According to him, the remains of burned people were found in the garage box. The garage was also completely burnt. According to local residents, the Russian military killed several civilians here.
As of September 1, law enforcement officers have already discovered 1,356 bodies of citizens who died during the Russians’ temporary occupation of settlements in the Kyiv region.
Donetsk and Luhansk Regions
Yesterday, three civilians were killed and three more were injured as a result of shelling of settlements in the Donetsk region. This was reported by the head of the regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, on the morning of September 5.
The police department of the Donetsk region specified that during the day, the occupying forces carried out 11 attacks on seven settlements in the region.
In all cases, the shells hit the places of residence of the civilian population. The Russian army bombarded civilians with rockets, “Grad” and “Uragan” MLRSs, and artillery.
28 civilian objects were destroyed or damaged – 22 residential buildings, a transformer substation, garages, railway tracks.
Kharkiv and Region
Settlements of the Izium, Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Bogodukhiv districts of the region were hit by intensive shelling by the Russian occupying forces last day, as a result of which one woman died and others were injured, Oleh Synegubov, the head of the regional military administration, reported.
Residential buildings, commercial buildings, industrial facilities were damaged, and fires broke out. A 58-year-old woman died in the Bogodukhiv district, rescuers unblocked her body from under the rubble of the house. A 72- year-old woman and three men aged 61, 70 and 66 were injured in the Izium district. A 67-year-old man was injured in Kharkiv district.
In addition, according to updated data, three people were injured as a result of a rocket attack on Kharkiv on September 4. The blast wave damaged private homes and a 10-story apartment building.
Today, September 5, at about 11 o’clock, the Russian army of occupation shelled Zolochiv. This was announced by the head of the Zolochiv community, Viktor Kovalenko. According to Kovalenko, two people died.
Mykolaiv and Region
As of September 5, since the beginning of the Russian invasion, 10,436 civilian objects have been partially or completely damaged in the Mykolaiv region (+154 in the last day). This was reported by the the Mykolaiv regional military administration.
Of them:
– objects of the housing fund – 6803,
– medical facilities – 70,
– educational institutions – 338,
– cultural institutions – 151,
– facilities of industrial enterprises – 126,
– life support facilities: gas – 858, electricity – 599, water – 29, heat supply – 95,
– other non-military objects – 1,367.
6,343 consumers remain without gas supply.
Currently, electricity supply, water supply, and drainage have been stopped in 92 settlements.
The occupiers continue to shell Mykolaiv region. On the night of September 5, rockets struck an industrial enterprise on the outskirts of Mykolaiv. Two districts of the region were also hit. As a result of shelling, fires occurred, residential buildings and other commercial buildings were damaged. There are victims. In total, as of the morning of September 5, there were 501 wounded in Mykolaiv hospitals after the attacks of the occupiers, said the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, Hanna Zamazeeva.
According to the National Police, the Russian invaders damaged more than 80 residential buildings in the Mykolaiv region last day. After yesterday’s shelling, the police documented 66 damaged private and 16 apartment buildings. Educational institutions, a religious building, premises of enterprises and other infrastructure objects were also destroyed.
Sumy and Region
During the past day, the enemy shelled the territory of the Sumy region. A total of 64 hits were recorded. As a result of shelling, power lines, the premises of the former school and the former village council, as well as windows in residential
buildings were damaged.
Kherson and Region
Russian invaders kidnapped seven people in the Kherson region. This was reported by the National Police.
Russians kidnapped two men in Hola Prystan and Nova Kakhovka. In the Kakhovka district, the occupiers kidnapped a resident of one of the villages (it is known that he was tortured). And in Kherson and the region, the invaders kidnapped four people – a woman in the regional center and three more people in the region (one of them is a priest). Earlier it was reported that Russian invaders killed a man and robbed his apartment in Henichesk.
Dnipro and Region
On the night of September 5, the Nikopol district again was attacked by the Russian military. It was fired upon twice by heavy artillery. This was reported by the head of the Dnipro regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko.
About ten private houses and an apartment building were damaged in Nikopol. 9 buildings in the city were also damaged, including a gymnasium, a children’s and youth sports school, a shop and a cafe. Several power lines were damaged.
As a result of the shelling of the Kryvyi Rih district by the Russian occupiers on Sunday, September 5, an elderly woman died in Apostolove, and three more people were injured, Valentyn Reznichenko reported. The shelling was carried out from the “Uragan” MLRS. In the city, a gas pipeline is severely damaged – there was a fire. In Zelenodolsk, the industrial buildings were damaged.
Zaporizhzhia and Region
In one of the settlements of the Zaporizhzhia region, the occupation authorities started teaching at a school where Russian soldiers live and their military equipment is located. This is reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The educational process began on September 1, and the situation is similar in most schools and kindergartens in the region. The enemy cynically uses children for cover.
Russian military personnel will continue to be stationed on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They placed trucks with weapons and ammunition in the engine rooms of the 1st and 2nd units. This was reported by the”Energoatom” Company.
Ukraine called for immediate measures to demilitarize the ZNPP as soon as possible.
Currently, the station operates with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards. No comments were reported regarding the operation of equipment and safety systems.
Over the past day, Russian troops shelled 14 settlements in the region. This was reported in the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration.
The police received 12 reports about the destruction of civil infrastructure objects as a result of shelling by the Russian occupation forces.
