STPI observes its 34th Foundation Day

It empowers India’s tech industry with 135000 sq. ft. of build-up space across NER.

Guwahati, 6th June, 2025: Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has proudly completed its 34 impactful years of dedicated service to the nation.

Over the past three decades, STPI has played a pivotal role in propelling India’s IT landscape through consistent growth in software exports and by fostering a vibrant tech startup ecosystem that aligns with the vision of a digitally empowered India.

Since its inception in 1991 with a focus on boosting software exports, STPI has evolved into a cornerstone of innovation, startup empowerment, and digital inclusion, operating 67 centres, including 59 in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

STPI observes its 34th Foundation Day

On STPI’s 34th Foundation Day, Shri Arvind Kumar, Director General, STPI, said: “Today is a proud moment for STPI. STPI started its journey with three centres, and at that time, the IT industry was at a nascent stage. Now, STPI has 67 centres across the country and these centres have played a vital role in transforming the IT industry. In 2024-25, the exports done by STPI registered units have reached to more than ₹10 lakh crores.

Aligned with the mandate of the Government of India, STPI is working for the dispersal of the IT industry to Tier-II & Tier-III cities of the country for inclusive growth. Also, STPI is nurturing the tech startup ecosystem across India through its 24 Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) and NGIS and supported more than 1400 startups. Startups empowered through the STPI ecosystem have raised funds of Rs. 574 crores from investors so far.

Initiated with facilitating IT/ITeS exports, incubation, and data communication services, STPI has grown into a key pillar of the nation’s digital and innovation ecosystem. We remain deeply committed to empowering the Indian startup ecosystem across the country, making innovation truly inclusive. It is particularly encouraging that 44% of startups under STPI’s umbrella are led by women entrepreneurs, many of whom come from smaller towns and cities.”

STPI Guwahati Directorate has been instrumental in nurturing the IT industry and tech startups ecosystem in the North East.

Over the years, the jurisdiction has strategically expanded its footprint through eight sub-centres in Guwahati, Agartala, Aizawl, Itanagar, Imphal, Kohima, Gangtok and Shillong. In FY 2024-25, STPI-registered units under STPI-Guwahati jurisdiction have done software exports of approx. ₹198 crore. STPI Guwahati empowers India’s tech industry with 135000 sq. ft. of build-up space across NER.

OCTANE is an integrated initiative comprising eight Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across the capital cities of the North East region, each focused on a distinct emerging technology.

These includes IoT in Agriculture at Guwahati, Animation at Shillong, Emerging Technologies in AR/VR at Imphal, IT Applications in Healthcare &AgriTech at Gangtok, GIS Applications including Drone Technology at Itanagar, IT Applications in Graphic Design at Kohima, Gaming and Entertainment at Aizawl, Data Analytics & AI at Agartala.

It provides a comprehensive ecosystem for startups by offering single-window support services such as expert mentorship, seed capital, marketing assistance, and IPR facilitation etc. Beyond incubating new ventures, it is designed to generate employment, inspire innovation among students and professionals through dedicated innovation zones, and boost E-Commerce adoption across the region.

This initiative is not only creating future-ready businesses but also transforming the Northeast into a vibrant hub for digital growth and self-sustaining technological progress.

STPI empowers India’s tech industry with 17 lakh sq. ft. of workspace, five Tier-3 data centers, 1400+ startups through 24 Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs) and Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS), state-of-the-art labs, SAYUJ – Startup Community Network, Ananta – STPI Cloud Services, and schemes such as BPO Promotion Schemes and Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC).

STPI is having a legacy of enabling IT Excellence and a Vision for Tech-Powered Bharat. Through all these initiatives, it is working relentlessly to strengthen the IT industry and tech startup ecosystem to transform the country into a software product nation.

About Software Technology Parks of India (STPI): Established on 5th June 1991 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, STPI functions under the Ministry of Electronics & IT. It implements the Software Technology Park (STP) and Electronics Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) schemes.

STPI strengthens India’s startup ecosystem through Centres of Entrepreneurship, the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS), and SAYUJ — a networking platform connecting startups, investors, mentors, and incubators. STPI also offers HSDC, incubation for local startups, VAPT, colocation and cloud services, reinforcing India’s digital infrastructure.
