SUCCESSFUL AMA MOUNT KANCHENJUNGA EXPEDITION 2023 TEAM REACHED GUWAHATI CITY

Guwahati, the 4th June; After spending 54 days for a mission, of which mostly on the snowcapped mountains of the Himalayas, the successful AMA Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition 2023 Team yesterday reached Guwahati city in the evening.
The team kept their footfall in the state by reaching Kokrajhar town by train in the evening of 2nd May. In Kokrajhar, they were welcomed by the district administration, local voluntary organizations and the local unit of AASU lead by its central committee vice president Nabajyoti Roy.
After attending a dinner hosted by NTPC, Salakathi, yesterday morning, the team had made an interaction session with the students community and faculties at Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar. The programme was hosted by the CIT authority and the NSS Unit of CIT, Kokrajhar.
After that, they reached Bongaigaon town, where they were welcomed and felicitated in the Birjhora Library Auditorium by the District Sports Association, Bongaigaon along with the district and police administration of Bongaigaon.
Members of Bongaigaon Adventure Association, District Veteran Sports Association and students of Birjhora H.S. School were also present in the function.

On reaching Pathsala, the team received warm welcome and felicitation by Bajali unit of AJYCP, Kenduguri United Club, the Bhattadev University fraternity, Anandaram Baruah Academy, Digital Media Association of Pathsala, Pathsala Press Club, Bajali Press Guild, 1no.Bamakhata Tarun Sangha and the authority of Anupam Nirman Pvt. Ltd.

After entering city, the team had proceeded to the Swaheed Nyash Bhawan at Uzanbazar, where the chief advisor of AASU, Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharjee, general secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah, ex president Dipanka Nath along with central committee members and All Guwahati Students Union welcomed and felicitated them.
In a brief function organized in the venue, the team shared their experience with sections of the society present there. In the same function, warm felicitation to the successful team members offered by North East Adventure Foundation, Guwahati; Green Trek Adventure of Bogamati and Shikhar Adventure Club, Goreswar among others.

It may please be noted that by creating history, two members of this team namely Jayanta Nath and Bhaskar Baruah climbed the third highest mountain peak in the world Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 meter) in the wee hours of 7;15 a. m. on 25th May 2023 and unfurled Indian Tricolor, Assam Mountaineering Association’s Expedition Flag and Assamese Fulam Gamosa at the top of this magnificent mountain.

This is for the first time from the entire northeast India that an organization have organized and successfully scaled the toughest peak in the world Mt. Kanchenjunga with the financial support of a state government. Assam’s Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Chief-de-Mission of this Mega Expedition and the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam is the sponsoring authority of the same.
Earlier in an attempt to scale the peak on 18th May; team members Bhaskar Baruah, Jayanta Nath, Kaushik Das and Sekhar Bordoloi almost reached the top, but had compelled to abundant their final push and forced to step down from just 170 meter below the summit due to some technical issues.

Hon,ble President of India Droupadi Murmu had flagged-off this expedition at State Guest House, Koinadhara here on 7th April 2023 which was lead by one of the most experienced mountaineer from the state Manash Barooah, who was also the leader of 2015 and 2016’s Everest Expeditions from Assam.

Another seasoned mountaineer and Associate Professor of Tezpur Medical College & Hospital Dr. Jagadish Basumatary bears the responsibility of Dy. Leader cum Medical Officer in the team. They are assisted by Upen Chakraborty as Joint Deputy Leader. Other climbing members are Kaushik Das, Bhaskar Baruah, Jayanta Nath and Sekhar Bordoloi.
