The Art of Spiritual Evolution in Human Lives-A Modern Day Approach

Spirituality is a strong aspect of human experience. In order to have meaning, purpose and value of life, it is a necessity to have a sense of connection and positive relationship to the superpower, self, others and nature. The civilization that is solely based on material development is not, in a real sense, a civilization.

The advancement of material and spiritual civilization should unite, then together they are like the light and lamp and then the result will be perfect. Spirituality is like the spirit of life that actually gives meaning, purpose and value to the beautiful body. If that phenomenal spirit of life enters this beautiful body, the body will become a channel for the distribution and development of the perfection of humanity.

In Hindu philosophy, life is divided into four stages, each with its unique purpose and responsibilities.Stages are underlined:

The first stage, Brahmacharya, is a time of learning and self-discipline, where individuals focus on education, self-control, and celibacy until marriage. This leads to Grihastha, the householder phase, where one embraces the responsibilities of family life, nurturing relationships, raising children, and contributing to society.

After fulfilling these duties, the third stage, Vanaprastha, encourages individuals to gradually detach from worldly life, retreating from household responsibilities to focus on spiritual growth and introspection. The final stage, Sannyasa, is a life ofrenunciation, where oneseeks liberation (moksha) through meditation, wisdom, and detachment from material pursuits.

Traditionally, spirituality and the deeper exploration of life’s meaning have been associated with the later stages, often seen as something to focus on when life naturally slows down. For generations, this journey toward selflessness and philanthropy has been a way to prepare for life’s ultimate transition.

However, this perspective is rapidly changing. Today, young individuals, often under 40, embrace spirituality as a vital part of their lives. Many have recognised that the materialistic world, despite its promises of wealth and success, fails to deliver true happiness, peace, or a sense of belonging. The relentless pursuit of money and status; like a hungry wolf chasing its prey; often leaves people feeling empty, even after reaching milestones like becoming millionaires or billionaires.

This generation is asking deeper questions: What is the true meaning of life? Why does success feel so hollow? The corporate grind, with its relentless demands and pressures, frequently drains mental peace and leaves a void that material achievements cannot fill. Both men and women are turning inward, exploring spirituality as a way to fill these gaps, reconnect with themselves, and discover a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

This growing trend reflects a profound shift: spirituality is no longer seen as an endpoint of life but an integral part of living fully. It’s a conscious choice by young people to seek inner alignment and peace amidst the chaos of modern life, proving that the journey of the soul transcends age and tradition.

Revelation Of Spiritual Side:

The Maha Kumbh is currently taking place in Prayagraj, marking a rare and auspicious event happening after 144 years. This sacred gathering is a moment of immense significance, not just for India but for the entire world. People from across the globe are coming to take a holy dip in the River Ganga, seeking purification of the soul and divine blessings. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one that the present generation will not live to see again, making it even more profound.

The atmosphere is electric, with Saints, Baba’s, Aghoris, and Sanyasis gathering at the Maha Kumbh. What’s striking is the presence of many educated young sanyasis, individuals who have renounced the material world at an early age. Their choice reflects a major societal shift: a growing disillusionment with the fast-paced, materialistic lifestyle that dominates modern life.

This shift is not just about religion; it’s about seeking meaning, peace, and a deeper connection with life.

Profit Over People: The Shift in Modern Relationships

Today, relationships have become largely transactional, where love and care often hinge on what one can provide. Whether it’s a partner, spouse, children, or even parents, the dynamic seems to be based on fulfilling each other’s needs. As long as you’re offering what they desire, the love flows; but once those needs are met, it’s not uncommon for people to push you aside. In some cases, this can mean parents being cast out of their homes or sent to old age homes, just toavoid the responsibility of caring for them when they’re no longerable to contribute.

Even parents, in their own way, can become a source of pressure, pushing their children to achieve more and more without considering their mental health or emotional well-being, all to maintain a certain status in society. This creates an environment where domestic abuse and constant arguments become the norm, making family life toxic and unbearable.

For many young people, this emotional turmoil can drive them to leave home, seeking peace away from the chaos. For others, these wounds lead them toward spirituality, as they search for meaning and solace beyond the material world, sometimes renouncing everything to find a deeper connection to life.

DILLUSIONISM WITH MATERIALISM

Many young people are raised in a consumer-driven world where material success is often seen as the key to happiness. The belief that financial stability, career milestones, or social recognition will bring fulfilment is deeply ingrained in society. However, after reaching these goals, many find that the sense of achievement doesn’t fully satisfy their deeper emotional and spiritual needs. Despite all the external successes, something feels missing.

This realisation often leads them to turn toward spirituality as a way to break free from the cycle of materialism. The emptiness that comes with chasing possessions and status is hard to ignore, and they begin searching for a deeper sense of peace and purpose. Spirituality offers a path to connect with something greater than the material world, providing the inner fulfilment and meaning they’ve been longing for.

MENTAL HEALTH HAS BECOME A CONCERN!

In this fast-paced world, mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and burnout have become more prevalent than ever. This generation is constantly on the move, where achievements often take precedence over inner peace. There’s intense societal pressure to outdo the next person, whether it’s in terms of career, possessions, or status. The pervasive influence of social media only amplifies this, creating a culture of comparison that leaves many feeling inadequate. These constant external pressures can make it hard to find balance and contentment.

Why Youths in the 21st century are shifting towards Spirituality?

The new generation isn’t abandoning faith ─ they’re redefining it.

A quiet transformation is happening among younger people. They may not attend temple, mosque, church as often as previous generations, yet many are actively exploring ideas of energy, mindfulness, manifestation, andpurpose. Spiritual language is evolving across social media, inpodcasts, and in day-to-dayconversations. What’s emerging is not a return to traditional religion, but a reimagining of spirituality that feels flexible, personal and authentic.

This generational shift reflects a broader search for meaning in an age of uncertainty. For most of us, spirituality provides a sense of grounding and connection in a world that often feels chaotic, fragmented, and unstable.

Research across several countries confirms that there is a generational shift in Belief. InAustralia, one study found that that 38% of young adults identify as spiritual,50 percent believe in karma,29% in reincarnation, and 20% in astrology. Manyresearchers found that young people are engaging in spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer and journaling.

A UK survey described a “spiritual awakening” among Generation ZNoting a growing openness to both traditional and non-traditional forms of faith.
