The Martyrs of Oil blockade Agitation remembered in Duliajan

The All Assam Students Union paid their homage to the four Martyrs of Oil Blockade Agitation at Duliajan on January 18.
The four youths Nripen Bora, Kumud Gogoi, Ajit Neog and Nagen Deka remembered on the day for sacrificing their lives in front of Industrial Gate of Oil India Limited while agitating peacefully in favor of Oil Blockade protest on that day of 1980.
The horrific incident of thoughtless firing by the security forces on January 18, 1980 at the Oil Blockade Agitation that led the four Assam youths sacrificed their lives has been observed as Kendriya Swahid Diwas at the vanue of the firing incident, Kendriya Swahid Bedi, infront of the Industrial Gate of OIL continuously every year by AASU.
The programme organised by Duliajan Unit of AASU, witness different significant demands from top leadership of the Student organization. Participating the programme, AASU in charge president Utpal Sarma said, I demand inclusion of Assam Agitation in the academic curriculum of the country.
The post independence history of the Country will be incomplete without Assam Agitation. – Sarma said.

The new generation should acquire the knowledge of how a generation of Assamese people took part and sacrifices everything for their rights. Assam Agitation has been the biggest agitation led by students in the world. So it’s inclusion in the academic syllabus of the country a legitimate demand. Utpal Sarma further said.
The importance of gaining knowledge of Assam Agitation necessary in the PAN Indian context. The atrocities of the State on a indomitable Assamese Race must have to be told through the Chapters of History. He added.
The sacrifice stories of the Martyrs of Assam Agitation has been a source of inspiration for the generations. Sarma said.
Participating the Swahid Diwas programme, AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, If every clause of Assam Accord implemented, nobody could be able to question the success of the Assam Agitation. But the parties in power after the Assam Accord, has played an inactive role in implementing the clauses of the Accord. As a result of this, our generation has not been able to enjoy the fruit of the Accord.

Repeating their promise of a continuous struggle for Assamese people, AASU general secretary, Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, We will not stop untill every clause of Assam Accord will be implemented. Our struggle will continue till it’s complete implementation.
Proper redetermination of Lagislative Assembly Constituencies of Assam has a long unfulfilled demand raised by AASU. Re determination of LACs of the state should have to be made to protect the rights of the people. Redetermination of LACs needed to be done with an aim to give the indigenous people of Assam to become the key factor in deciding the political power of the state. Sankorjyoti said.
Redetermination of LACs will not be accepted if it is done to gain political benefits for any political party. He further said.
AASU chief advisor Dr. Samujjwal Kumar Bhattacharya said that to implement the Assam Accord and deport the illegal foreigners from Assam a Bilateral Agreement between government of India and Bangladesh Government must have to done in an urgent manner.
Dr. Bhattacharya said, If Gujarat has been under the threats of illegal Pakistani foreigners, Prime minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah would not sit silent. But as the question of illegal foreigners has been burning Assam, all on the power chairs of Delhi showed an inactive gesture on the issue.

We have to continue our struggle, there’s no other way out. Dr. Bhattacharya said.
The Swahid Diwas programme began after Diganta Borah, president, AASU, Duliajan unit, hoisted the flag of the organisation.
The programme arranged on this ocassion was anchored by Duliajan Unit AASU general secretary Samiran Gogoi. After the flag hoisting, the family members of the four Martyrs lit the lamps in front of their pictures. Swahid Nagen Deka Deka’s wife Tileswari Deka, son Diganta Deka, Sarat Gogoi, brother of Swahid Kumud Gogoi took part in the programme.
Bhairab Bhuyan, Executive Director, OIL, former agitator of Assam Agitation Hemdhar Gogoi, Chandra Saikia, Tokhen Rajkonwar, principal of Duliajan College, Dr. Lokbikash Gogoi, senior professor Hemanta Das, AASU central executive Anil Gogoi, Riyajuddin Ahmed, Nayanjyoti Deka, assistant secretary, AASU central executive, Mridul Hazarika, Aboni Gogoi, general secretary, AASU, Dibrugarh district unit, Aditya Goswami, central executive, Asom Sahitya Sabha, Ranjan Mahanta, president, Duliajan Sahitya Sabha, noted citizen and literature worker Punaram Borgohain, Ajay Kumar Aley, central assistant secretary, AAGSU, Manoj Orang, President, AASAA, graced the occasion among others.
On the occasion, the Souvenir Swahid Diwas, edited by Anand Kurmi was launched by Bulbul Dutta, president, AASU, Dibrugarh district unit.
