Research from financial services firm Prograd also indicates that many seek affordable housing and lower taxes. However, the challenge lies in transitioning from contemplation to action, particularly for parents who need to assess the overall family impact.

Expat insurance firm Williams Russell suggests EU countries like Portugal, Sweden, Italy, Spain, and Finland as ideal destinations. Conversely, the U.S., despite its cultural ties with the UK, ranks last among 28 countries due to high childcare costs and lengthy work hours.

At an average of $2,793 per month for a three-bedroom apartment, U.S. rental costs are among the highest globally, surpassed only by Switzerland and Ireland. Williams Russell’s data from Numbeo indicates Brits would pay 34% more in rent in the U.S. than in the UK. Additionally, the U.S. lacks federally mandated paid maternity and paternity leave, though 13 states offer such benefits.

Many families consider the availability and quality of higher education institutions when deciding where to live, as they want to ensure their children have access to the best possible educational opportunities.

The U.S. boasts 97 top universities, a figure that surpasses the combined total of top universities found in Germany, Italy, Australia, and Canada. This abundance of high-ranking institutions provides a wide array of choices for students and their families, encompassing a diverse range of academic programs, research opportunities, and extracurricular activities.

Moreover, the reputation of these universities often extends beyond national borders, attracting international students and scholars who seek world-class education and research facilities. However, UK tuition fees are capped at £9,250 ($15,950) per year, significantly lower than U.S. tuition, which can reach up to $45,000 annually for public universities and $55,000 or more for private institutions, according to Kings Education.
