Ukraine: Anniversary of the Full Scale russian Invasion
EVGEN KULIKOV

One year ago on Feb 24, 2022 russians started what they called a “special military operation” aiming to smash Ukraine in few days, to establish control over the capital, to put in place puppet government and then to split, isolate and destroy remaining defending forces.
Should they have succeeded with their 96 hours plan there would be no sovereign Ukraine any longer.
Since the first hours of invasion, everything went wrong for russians.
The massive missile strikes which were supposed to destroy air defense system and catch by surprise most of Ukrainian troops in the places of permanent dislocation were only partially successful.
Invaders faced the resistance they didn’t expect and started to lose their vehicles, air crafts and troops in enormous quantities from the first day.
Instead of successful blitzkrieg with limited resistance of disorganized and disoriented forces, russians faced large regular army full of motivated people ready to defend our homeland.
On occupied territories surprisingly for themselves, russian invaders didn’t find people gladly meeting “the liberators” but instead they faced huge civil resistance and partisan attacks.

After desperate attempts to encircle and occupy Kyiv the russians had to withdraw from the whole north of Ukraine being unable to properly arrange logistics in that area. The whole world saw the atrocities and war crimes of russians in the cities nearby Kyiv.
Landing operation in Odesa aiming to completely cut Ukraine from the sea and to arrange the land corridor to russian-controlled Transnistria never happened; instead, gradually russians were pushed back in the Black Sea.
Ukrainian forces managed to liberate almost fully the Kharkiv oblast in the east and forced russians to withdraw from Kherson, the only regional center of Ukraine occupied by russians.

Ukraine has survived and keeps on withstanding the russian invasion.
Despite many cities and villages being completely destroyed, despite loss of territories in the south, despite thousands and thousands of new graves, despite millions of Ukrainians who had to run away from the war abroad, despite regular russian strikes on energy infrastructure, despite the desire of Putin and his propaganda to convince everyone that Ukraine as country and Ukrainians as nation have never existed.
Ukraine keeps on fighting for its freedom.

A year ago our lives changed and will never be the same again.
The reflection of Feb, 24, 2022 will stay in our eyes forever.
