Women of Afghanistan

Taking a stand for the human rights of the women of Afghanistan and raising their voices is one the most crucial tasks that every woman rights defender, activist, and anyone who has the slightest influence should consider.
On 19-20th May, a wide variety of Afghan women from the civil society, political leaders, activists, lawyers, journalists, and representatives from the women’s movement, both from within and outside of Afghanistan, gathered to discuss women’s participation and role in the dialogue about the future of Afghanistan.
The Forum of Afghan Women Leaders was chaired by Stella Ronner-Grubacic, EU Ambassador for Gender and Diversity, and Tomas Niklasson, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, facilitated by the #EU at Brussels.
We worked on several thematic issues concerning women, such as Human Rights, especially women’s rights, access to education, employment, participation in the private sector (business and entrepreneurship), women’s role in inclusive political dialogue, and governance.

We agreed on establishing a coordination committee building on the thematic working groups as the structure for further cooperation.
We will work on establishing a common objective, strategy, terms of reference, and action plan, which will enable us to contribute to shaping the future of Afghanistan.
