Women’s Rights under Taliban
Rita Anwari

Before and now!
The Taliban’s restrictive policies and decrees over the past ten months tell a draconian story.
Afghan women have increasingly been deprived of their rights, including their rights to work, pursue an education, access to opportunity and healthcare, right to peaceful assembly, and freedom of expression.
Gradually the present Taliban regime is going back to its former self.

After banning girl students from higher education now the latest attack is on the women newsreaders on TV channels.
The regime has made it clear that the women news reader have to cover their mouth while facing the camera. This is outrageous to ban women from showing their faces on all kinds of media, including advertisements and television. It seems now the regime is going to stop women to breathe and systematically kill their freedom and watch happily to see them live a wretched life.
The international community should take concrete measures to use their leverage by conditioning international aid, recognition, and diplomatic engagement on the Taliban making policy changes—with verifiable implementation—to protect Afghan women.
