World Music Day and International Day of Yoga

Today is 21st June – World Music Day and International Day of Yoga.

Is it a mere coincidence that the same day 21st June is commemorated as both Music day and Yoga day ?

Lets find out.

According to our Yoga Shastras it is Shiva himself who introduced Yoga on Earth when He appeared as Adiyogi Adinath and taught the first principles of Yoga ,

Tantras and Meditation with the purpose of enlightenment for its recipient practitioners . Divine revelations which are documented , some, as Shivas dialogues with Mata Paarvati, in Aagama Shaatras, Shiva Samhita , Shiva Sutras, Vigyan Bhairav , Guru Gita etc. This huge body of spiritual literature was later compiled in the form of Sutras or aphorisms by Maharshi Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras.

According to our Sangeet Shastras as well, all three aspects of Music – Raag , Taal and Nritya were divine revelations by Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati – the Six principal Raagas and their 30 associated Raaginis , The Five principal Taalas and of course Lord Shivas Taandav Nritya and Mata Parvati’s Lhaasya Nritya revealing the foundations of Dance

.So it is clear that the source of Yoga and Music is the same , Shiva

.But why are both these paths Music and Yoga celebrated on the same day , 21st June?

As we all know 21st June is that day of the year which has the longest day and shortest night. Summer solstice. The day which receives Sunlight for the longest duration. The Sun , in all ancient cultures including our Sanatan Dharma has always been revered as the source of Praana,

Life Force, for our planet ; and also a symbol of Highest Knowledge , Inner Illumination, the effulgent self , the Supreme Realisation of which, is the ultimate aim of human life. So , if Self Realisation is the ultimate aim of being human, how can the aim of Sangeet Sadhana be different from that aim?

Hence we can understand that the source and aim of Music and Yoga is the same and the two are deeply interwoven with one another, manifesting from the same ONE , for the ultimate benefit of mankind to help humans merge with that same ONE , That which we all are seeking knowingly or unknowingly.
