ZELENSKY IN DAVOS: UKRAINE IS NO LONGER ASKING – IT IS SETTING THE RULES

DIANA LUSTA
At a special session of the Vanity Fair in Davos, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke no longer as a country asking for support.
He spoke as a leader shaping a new security standard for Europe.
No euphemisms. No diplomatic detours.
Zelensky said out loud what many in Europe still hesitate to say clearly:
“If russian military ships pose a threat – they must be sunk.”

This was not emotion.
It was the logic of war and security.
A clear message: aggression has a cost, and it cannot be symbolic.
But the speech was not only about war.
It was about Europe’s future security architecture.
In essence, Zelensky proposed the creation of a European defense union together with Ukraine –
not after victory,
but as a response to the new reality.
A key line of the speech:
“If Ukraine is with Europe, it will not allow anyone to trample on Europe.”
This was not a request for a seat at the table.
🇺🇦 It was a statement: Ukraine is a guarantor of European security, not its weak link.
Zelensky clearly reversed the roles.
Ukraine is no longer an object of containment of a “former regional hegemon.”
It is the only country in Europe that:
– systematically,
– openly,
– without fear
🇺🇦 confronts it directly and survives.
There was no tone of pleading in this speech.
There was the voice of someone who is already paying the highest price – and therefore has the moral right to speak firmly, clearly, and ahead of time.
And it was heard.
After the speech, the audience gave a standing ovation for several minutes –
not out of politeness,
but in response to strength, clarity, and leadership.
In Davos, one simple truth was voiced: without Ukraine, Europe will talk about security.
With Ukraine, it will provide it.
