Who is this woman?
FOROUGH KARIMI
Who is this woman?
She could have been me, or my daughter. If I were still living in my motherland.
Might she be one of my friends?
Could it be Farida? The cheerful woman with her stunning way of expression, who could have become an actress if she had been born in another country.
Or is this maybe one of my friend’s daughters, Fereshta? The young artist with her precocious talent for painting. Her father had such a big dreams for her future. He used to post her drawings on his Facebook page, every day.
Or is this woman my old classmate Laila, the born debater, who could blow everyone away with her sharp tongue and irrefutable arguments?
Or is this just a woman without a face, without a name, without a voice?
Today this is – once again— the destiny of every woman living in Afghanistan.
