On the eve of World Tourism Day, the Bodoland Tourism Development Society ( BTDS) , an umbrella association of all tourism stakeholders of BTR celebrated in befitting manner in the august presence of the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Sri Gobindo Basumatary, Sri Lamdra Wangdi, Sub Divisional officer, Daifam, Bhutan, Sri Ballo Shakak Balemu, Arunachal Pradesh, Sri Soumyadeep Dutta, Director, Nature’s Beckon, Sri Pabitra Rabha – Director , Dapon the mirror etc.
The dignitaries unanimously stated that the region should promote high end tourists instead of mass tourism as well as advocate Responsible Tourism.
Sri Wangdi from Bhutan said that the country strongly supports zero carbon emission and for that they have imposed a nominal fee for Indians under the Sustainable Development Fund of Rs 1200/- per person per night.
The Hon’ble Deputy Chief, BTR also opined that to promote the rich culture and tradition of the region the stakeholders should focus more on domestic tourism which is what the tourists are seeking post pandemic.
Sri Soumyadeep Dutta, too advised the participants to be proactive in tourism and develop tourism zones and themes like Pedestrian Day similar to the neighbouring country, Bhutan, interpretation centre or promote the all dwarves theatre directed by Pabitra Rabha an established theatre personality.
Sri Soumyadeep Dutta and Sri Pabitra Rabha were felicitated by the stakeholders for their contribution in the creation of Chakrasila Wildlife sanctuary as well as adopting Journagra village, and promoting the all dwarves theatre group respectively along with tourist guides from Raimona National Park and Udalguri for their contribution to the region.
The society celebrated World Tourism Day at Thobang Jungle Tourist Camp, Lwkhibazar, Baksa on 27th September, 2022 with a number of activities.
