Librarians’ Day celebration in Dept. of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University

On the occasion of 131st birthday of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, the Librarians’ Day was celebrated on August 12th 2023 in the Conference Hall of the Department of Library and Information Science of Gauhati University with a day-long programme.
To mark the day, an inspirational lecture was organised. Dr. Jagadindra Raychoudhury, an eminent scholar and writer delivered an interesting lecture on the relevance of libraries in society as an Invited Speaker. In the beginning of the meeting, lightening the ceremonial lamp and floral tribute was bestowed to the father of Library and Information Science Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.
The meeting was jointly organized by the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University; Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library, Gauhati University, Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Zone-5, Kolkata; Indian Library Association, East Zone, New Delhi and Assam Library Association, Guwahati, Assam.
The meeting was presided by the HoD of DLIS, GU Prof. Sanjay Kr. Singh.
The president of IASLIC Prof. Narendra Lahkar, President of Assam Library Association, Dr. Prasanta Kr. Deka who is also the Librarian of K.K. Handiqui Library, GU, and many other librarians, teachers from different educational institutions of Assam and the students of the department were present in the meeting.
Many of them shared their experiences on different facets of libraries and information science.
The Silver Jubilee Cash Prize Award 2022 was awarded to the Best Postgraduate in Library and Information Science Miss Sanam Das. At the end, Prof. Dipen Deka from the Dept. of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University delivered the Vote of Thanks.
