Early Life and Foundation
Sanjeev’s tale begins against the backdrop of a nomadic childhood, shaped by the postings of his father, an indigenous son of Assam and a distinguished army officer with 11 medals and 2 stars. The diverse experiences of his early life laid the foundation for a man who would later navigate the complexities of the IT world with ease.
As the winds of change blew through various cities due to his father’s postings, Sanjeev’s education became a mosaic of experiences, a canvas painted with the hues of diversity.
After his father’s retirement, the Sarma family returned to the embrace of Assam. Armed with a Post Graduate degree in Computer Applications, Sanjeev ventured into the corporate world, honing his skills at multinational giants like ZAP Infotech and IBM Global Services.
However, the entrepreneurial spirit within him was restless, urging him to carve a path of his own, leading to the birth of “Webx” in 2001.

In 2004, he was crowned a “Technology Hero” for pioneering first online bus ticketing system, when the flight tickets were not online and even the train tickets weren’t.”

So, he took the plunge and founded “Webx,” a seed planted in the fertile soil of ambition. Over the years, this seed sprouted into “Webx Technologies Private Limited” in 2009, a testament to Sanjeev’s vision and tenacity. His brothers, Jayant(a) Sharma and Simant(a) Sharma, joined the journey, turning it into a family affair.

At the helm of Webx, Sanjeev’s expertise unfolded like a saga. His forte lay in crafting enterprise solutions on the canvas of Enterprise Software Architecture, Web Platforms, and Mobile Technologies.

The chronicles of Webx are studded with ground-breaking milestones. In 2001, Sanjeev unveiled the first Entertainment Portal, Rupaliparda.com, setting the stage for future digital endeavours. The subsequent year witnessed the birth of the first Online Assamese Newspaper for the newspaper group “Aaji”, a testament to Sanjeev’s commitment to technological progress.
The years that followed saw the introduction of the first E-Tendering System and Online Content Management System in 2005 for NF Railways, followed by the first Webcasting Solution for Oil India in 2007. Each innovation solidified Sanjeev’s reputation as a trailblazer, a maestro orchestrating the symphony of technological advancement.

Architect of Enterprise Solutions
Sanjeev’s expertise in delivering enterprise solutions on Enterprise Software Architecture, Web Platforms, and Mobile Technologies became the cornerstone of Webx’s success. A member of the Advisory Board at Software Technology Parks of India, Guwahati University, and Executive Committee Member of the National Institute of Electronic and IT – he played a pivotal role in shaping technological governance. His consultancy extended to IT projects to many state and central government departments and Management Information Systems at NF Railways (Construction).
Nurturing Entrepreneurship
Yet, amidst the accolades and responsibilities, Sanjeev remained deeply rooted in his passion for nurturing young entrepreneurs. His involvement in mentoring initiatives of startup ecosystem such as the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, StartUp Assam, UpStart, and Megaminds showcased his commitment to fostering the next generation of tech visionaries.

As a jury member in various B-Plan Competitions organized by State Government and Premier Institutions, Sanjeev Sarma emerged not just as an entrepreneur but as a torchbearer for the untapped potential of the North-East. His legacy is one of innovation, leadership, and a profound belief that even in the remotest corners, entrepreneurial dreams can flourish and leave an everlasting legacy.
