UKRAINE: Her name was Irina Filkina!
Irina Mirochnik
Her name was Irina Filkina.
A photograph of her hand with a red manicure
from Bucha, which was liberated exactly two years ago, went around the world.
The woman was identified on her birthday, 1 April 2022,
by her ring finger with a heart…
When the war broke out, Iryna lived in the local Epicentre, where she fed people hiding from shelling and cooked for the Ukrainian military.
On 5 March, she tried to leave Bucha in one of the cars that evacuated people from the shopping centre to the countryside, but she didn’t have enough space – she gave way to a woman with a child.
So she decided to return home by bike.
15 minutes away from home, she was shot by the Russian military…
She was such a kind and bright person that all her friends called her “Mum Ira“.
After her mother’s death, her daughter Olha set up a foundation to help Ukrainians affected by the war.
“I want the photo of her hand to become a symbol of new beginnings. This symbol tells the occupiers that they can do anything to us, but they cannot take away the most important thing: love. The love of people that they don’t have,” says Olha.
A total of 1400 residents, including civilians from Bucha, were killed during the occupation of Kyiv region.
May she rest in peace!
May all the Ukrainians who were killed and tortured be remembered!
To those who will never smile at their families again, sit down at the family table, or meet the next day in a family circle.
Damn you, Russian occupier, for all eternity!
